Twinsburg, Ohio – September 25, 2002 – Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc. (HMSA) announced today that it will market the Hitachi Ultrasound products in Canada. This announcement follows Hitachi Medical Corporation’s recent consolidation of all diagnostic equipment sales and service in the United States into the HMSA operation located in Twinsburg, Ohio.

“Distribution of the Ultrasound products in Canada gives us a critical mass of products that allows us to meet our threshold requirement for this important market,” according to David Hartman, Corporate Accounts Manager at HMSA.

Hartman continued, “With our success in the United States in Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging, where we have the number one market share position in the Open MR segment, coupled with the Ultrasound product line, we are well positioned for the Canadian market.”

Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc. markets advanced medical imaging products to meet a variety of healthcare needs, including premium, high performance magnetic resonance imaging products of Hitachi Medical Corporation, Tokyo, Japan. HMSA has established a leadership position in Open MR imaging with more than 1,200 systems installed throughout the United States and over 2,300 worldwide. Since the company first popularized the concept of Open MR over a decade ago, it has been the fastest growing segment of MR imaging. In addition, Direct Digital Radiography has become the accepted standard in the high throughput x-ray sector and, through a relationship with Swissray, HMSA has assumed a market leadership position. HMSA has also teamed-up with CPS Innovations, the market leader in dedicated clinical PET technology. HMSA's first PET system, called SceptreTM, features LSO detectors and the latest in sophisticated corrections and reconstruction algorithms.

The parent company of HMSA, Hitachi, Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is a leading global electronics company, with approximately 320,000 employees worldwide. Fiscal 2001 (ended March 31, 2002) consolidated sales totaled 7,994 billion yen ($60.1 billion). The company offers a wide range of systems, products and services in market sectors, including information systems, electronic devices, power and industrial systems, consumer products, materials and financial services.
